Jesus taught with extreme authority and precise clearness. Over the next few months we will investigate many of these teachings that stirred the hearts of so many but yet made others angry. As we look into these passages we will develop a better understanding of the life of Jesus and the life of a disciple. I encourage you to take a look with us and read along in the gospel. What a great way to begin the New Year by reading the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) as many times as you can. Remember, it is not about just reading but applying what you are hearing from the Holy Spirit as you read.

This week we will continue to look into Matthew 5 as Jesus begins His ministry of teaching. Our focus this week will be on Matthew 5:7.

Christmas At Lighthouse Church

Advent is just around the corner! I love this time of year not because of the busyness of the season but because of the Hope that we have in our Risen Lord.

The Story of Christmas is fascinating on many accounts. This year at Lighthouse we will look at The Story of Christmas by looking into 1) the Wise Men’s Journey 2) the Courage of Joseph 3) and the Servant Nature of Mary.

Our journey through these stories will culminate in us worshiping together on Christmas Eve to celebrate the story of the Ultimate Gift — Jesus Christ. As in most gifts, we open them and then have a choice to make. On Christmas Day we will look into what we can do with our Gift that is opened for the world to see.

I would like to encourage you to prepare your heart and mind to seek how this Christmas can be unlike any other Christmas before. Ask God to reveal to you ways that you can build a relationship with someone over the Christmas holiday that would impact both your life and the one you are building a relationship with. Then as the relationship continues you can trust in the work of the Holy Spirit to change all of eternity.

Sermon Series (Week 3) Destiny: Power

This Sunday is week 3 in a series of messages out of
Ephesians. Paul’s letter to the
Ephesians is full of gospel theology and doctrinal truths that the established
church must apply in order to be the demonstration of grace to the world. In Ephesians 1 Paul explains our Destiny in
the truth that we are adopted as sons and daughters of God. The “we” that Paul refers to are those who
confess Jesus and are a part of the established church family.

During week 2 we took a look at how our destiny as a
child of God allows us to live like we are alive rather than living out of our death (Ephesians 2:1-10). As Joshua in chapter 24 stated that it is our
choice to follow God or the gods of those around us, we have the choice to live
like we are alive as we are rooted in Love – In Christ (Ephesians 2).

This week we will add to the results of our destiny as we
see that we do have power in the work of the Holy Spirit. The power of the Holy Spirit produces in us
the ability to be a witness (Acts 1:8) and an overflowing amount of confidence
(Ephesians 3:12).

“Sharing God’s Bountiful Blessings!” 4-6 PM October 30th

Location: Lighthouse Church – 1177 Gregorie Ferry Road Mt Pleasant

Mission Focus: Operation Christmas Child – Did you know that Americans spend 1.9 Billion Dollars on Halloween candy each year? With so many people starving in the world around us, that is a hard statistic to swallow. Therefore, we will not add to that statistic but will provide children all around the world with a shoe box filled with toys and necessities rather than waisting money on candy.

Games and Fun – we will have plenty of games and fun activities for all ages. From face and hair painting to carnival games you will have a wonderful time.

Costume Contest – Come dressed up but leave the scary costumes at home. We will have judges walking around looking for the following: most original, best character portrayal, funniest, cutest, most creative, best boy and best girl costumes.

Chili Cook-Off – Our reigning champ, Frank Zotti needs some competition. Please have your famous chili in a crock-pot at the festival by 4 pm.

We hear about it … Most people believe they have one … but what really is it? Destiny is known as “the hidden power believed to control what will happen in the future; fate.” What if you could know what that hidden power is in your life? Would that change how you lived your life?

We will spend 5 weeks going through the book of Ephesians as we uncover the Destiny for our lives.

Week 1 – We are Destined to Praise

Week 2 – We are Destined to live like we are Alive

Week 3 – We are Destined to Power

Week 4 – We are Destined to Purpose

Week 5 – We are Destined to Emulate Christ

Generosity Week 2 October 9th

This Sunday we will continue our study of 2 Corinthians 8-9 as we focus in on chapter 9.

How we view our finances has a gospel implication. This past week we saw that our generosity reveals the grace that we received and tells us who we believe Jesus to be. This Sunday we will see that our generosity can be inspired through competition and can be measured by our reaping … but not a reaping of finances.

Men of Lighthouse – Courageous Movie Night

Men of Lighthouse,

As I announced on Sunday, we will attend the 7:30 PM showing
of Courageous at Palmetto Grande Theater this Saturday.

I am looking forward to sharing this experience with you
guys. I believe there is going to be a
great result of the Spirit of God moving through our hearts as we have this
shared experience and desire to be the husbands and dads that God calls us to
be. Please be in prayer for this as
well.

Saturday’s Plan:

Meet at TGI Fridays – Towne Center 5:15 PM

Plan to arrive at the theater at 6:45 PM (It will more than
likely sell out so it will be beneficial to get our seats early)

Saturday October 15^th – Men’s Breakfast at the
church

Purpose is to debrief the movie and talk about what God is
doing in our lives as husbands, dads, future husbands and future dads

TICKET COST FOR THE MOVIE: $10

Please RSVP to reserve your ticket – as of today 9/27 I have 7 of the 15
tickets confirmed taken. If we are in
need of more tickets I will contact the theater to purchase more.

Please let me know if you are going to attend dinner at TGI
Fridays so I can reserve a table on Saturday.

Generosity Revolution – October 2-9th

Don’t you love the fact that “LOVE” is a part of “revolution? I do! Love is what brought Jesus to earth as the greatest act of generosity. We reflect this love from Jesus through our generosity. Are you a generous person? Are you looking for ways to meet other’s needs?

Beginning October 2nd we will spend two weeks going through 2 Corinthians 8-9 seeing how this Macedonian church gave us an example of what it means to be generous – even in tough economic times.

Yes, we will be talking about money! As you look around (you may be one of these people) and you notice people who are devastated because their lives are ruined by money, you will notice that the “god of money” is dead and not resurrecting like our God did. We will unpack that in the next few weeks.

Relational Eating – Community

We are approaching week 4 in our Relational Eating series. Over the past few weeks wesaw that we are the crippled who are invited to the table of God for a Kingdom Feast, we are the ones who should not be invited to the Feast but are invited anyway and that there is a Hope in knowing that all Jesus asks from us is all that we have … nothing more.

This Sunday we will see that Relationally Eating creates a strong sense of community especially if we are properly hosting the guest. In Luke 7 we see a man who does not host Jesus properly but a “sinner woman” does. This fascinating story show how we are not only hosted by Jesus for this Kingdom Feast but we have a responsibility to host Jesus as well.

Luke 9:23 The Call? Follow Me

The Call of Jesus is for us to follow Him. To be a disciple / “learner of Jesus is to do what He did. During this series we navigated what it meat for “anyone” to “come after” or passionately pursue then to “deny” and take up their cross. We will complete this series by taking a look at what it means to “follow me”.
